• Darien •

Less than an hour's drive to Manhattan, Darien is an attractive blend of comfortable seaside living and easy travel to the corporate world, making it a popular choice for executives, professionals and their families.

Originally part of Stamford, Darien’s seclusion and beauty were well-kept secrets until 1920 when affluent artists and writers discovered the natural splendor of this community on Long Island Sound. Before that, it was largely a summer colony for prosperous New Yorkers who built beach cottages that still dot the coast. Today, Darien is a suburb of metropolitan New York with magnificent waterfront properties, country estates, grand Victorian homes and contemporaries.

The community’s award-winning public schools include a $73 million campus at Darien High School. The Darien library is a center of constant activity. It ranks as one of the top 10 public libraries in the country for its size. It boasts 169,000 books and the highest per capita circulation in Connecticut.

Leisure and sporting activities abound in Darien. The town's pristine beaches provide swimming, water-skiing, windsurfing and sunbathing. Boating and fishing enthusiasts enjoy public and private marinas and clubs. Equestrian sports are particularly popular. The Ox Ridge Hunt Club sponsors an annual qualifying event for the National Horse Show.

Two Metro North railroad stations serve Darien, which is also a nexus for Interstate 95 and the Merritt Parkway. The town has an active Chamber of Commerce, which promotes shopping at quaint boutiques on the Boston Post Road, and at a handful of shopping centers.
